Halloween Pumpkin Sharpie Art
Do you want to skip the gooey guts of pumpkin carving this year? Try using oil based sharpies to draw on your pumpkins instead of carving.
Supplies: pumpkin or gourd, spray paint – matte finish works best, Oil-based Sharpies, Cardboard, pencil, Clear spray coat (optional)
Yes, you can draw directly on the rind with oil-based sharpie markers but if you spray paint the pumpkin in the color of your choice it will bedazzle your guests with the halloween spirit. Another option is to buy black or white plastic pumpkins.
Step 1 – Clean the pumpkin and allow it to dry completely.
Step 2 – Place the pumpkin on a piece of cardboard or a drop cloth to protect the surface beneath it from getting paint on it, preferably outside or in a well ventilated area.
Step 3 – Wait 24 hours to allow your pumpkin to dry. Then place your pumpkin on a cardboard protected work surface and sketch your design or part of it with a pencil. You can decorate with words, symbols, halloween or fall images, or doodle art. When you feel ready switch to using the oil based sharpie markers to decorate your pumpkins. A clear coat spray can be applied to help preserve your art if your pumpkin will be exposed to the elements. Once your pumpkin sharpie art has completely dried, preferably overnight, place your pumpkin on a cardboard or drop cloth once again in a ventilated area to apply the clear coat spray.
Step 4 – Put your pumpkin out for others to see and enjoy!
