This DIY creamy body butter will make your skin feel so lovely.
Ingredients: 1/3 cup of shea butter and cocoa butter packed in together, 1/3 cup of grape seed oil, 1/2 teaspoon of vitamin E oil or 2 capsules of vitamin E oil, 1/2 T arrowroot powder or corn starch
First, prepare your double boiler or a DIY double boiler and set the temperature to low heat. Add the shea butter and cocoa butter. Also, I recommend wearing an apron so the oils don’t stain your clothing if there is splatter when you are using the mixer in the last step.
Allow the hard butters to melt slowly over 15 – 30 minutes. After they have turned to liquid remove the pan from the burner and add the grape seed oil and the corn starch or arrow root. You can also add 15-20 drops of your favorite essential oil at this stage. Give it a stir. Let it cool until you can safely remove the container with the now liquid butters. Put the liquid butters in the freezer for 20 – 25 minutes. Next, use an electric mixer with a whisk attachment to whip the mixture into a buttery, creamy texture. Start out on the lowest setting and gradually increase the speed until you get the desired result. Once your butter is fluffy and cream just the way you like it, scoop it into a clean jar or container of your choice.
I prefer my butter a little bit on the greasy side because I live in Colorado where the air is very dry and I appreciate every bit of moisture I can get. But using a lighter oil and the arrow root or corn starch you can get a texture that is creamy but less greasy, yet still very moisturizing.
Your skin will love you for making this luxurious body butter. Enjoy!
